Charles P. Coates

Troop 31's Founder and First Scoutmaster

Reprinted from Court Street United Methodist Church records is the following article:

At the June 5, 1945 Fourth Quarterly Conference, recognition was given Mr. Charles P. Coates who died December 20, 1944.  "In the passing of Mr. Coates Court Street Church has lost one of its most faithful and devoted members.  The faith, the love, the dreams, the work, the fairness of Charlie Coates through all the many years of concentrated service to his church will remain a continuing influence for good for generations to come."

"His own personality is recorded in the hearts of his family and the hearts of all of those who knew and worked with him and will become a part of the history of this church.  Those of us who enter the west entrance of the church each Sunday morning miss his hearty handshake and the cordial welcome he extended to us these many, many years past."
